Foundation and Early Setbacks
Initially purchased in the 1940s, the plot on Selsdon Park Road saw years of delays until the Diocese swapped the land for a more strategic location in the 1950s. This led to the eventual construction and consecration of the church on Broadcoombe and Tedder Rd in December 1962.
Years of Challenges
St. Francis experienced several challenges including leadership vacancies and diminishing activities, which raised concerns about its viability. The church’s future was uncertain as community engagement waned.
A Turning Point Through Partnership
A critical partnership with Emmanuel South Croydon in 2003 marked a new beginning. A dual-role minister was appointed, supported by a group from Emmanuel, breathing new life into the church.
Golden Anniversary and Beyond
Since celebrating its 50th year, St. Francis has thrived, underpinned by a strong community and active participation. Looking ahead, the church aims to continue its legacy of growth and adapt to the evolving needs of its congregation.
